Craft Project: Making Papier-Mache Paste
Papier-mache is a very versatile material that can be used to make anything from masks or maracas to castles. Below is a very simple recipe to help you make the wallpaper paste that you need to stick the newspaper strips together. It is much cheaper than using PVA glue as the only ingredients are water, flour and salt, and it is much better for your paint brushes because it doesn’t glue the bristles together.
Materials
Flour
Water
Salt
Instructions
1. Put 4 cups of water into a saucepan and bring to the boil.
2. Whilst you’re waiting for the water to boil, mix together 1 cup of flour with 2 cups of water and stir well so there are no lumps (try whisking it).
3. When the water in the sauce pan has started boiled, turn down the heat and carefully add your flour and water mixture. Simmer for 2 – 3 minutes.
4. Add a pinch of salt and give the mixture a good stir.
5. Transfer the paste into a sealable contained or bag and allow to cool completely before you use it (I would leave it overnight).

Thanks for this = i’m guessing we can use this as ordinary glue – i.e. any glue activities???
Hi Khadeejah,
You can absolutely use this glue for other projects, it’s brilliant. And so cheap to make!
