Phonic Street: The First Review

The following is a review for our first app – Phonic Street by one of our independent testers Alex Bacon…

Phonic Street begins with two children (Millie and Mike) sitting on their tandem ready to go on a learning adventure. Throughout Phonic Street Mille and Mike visit several different characters that work on the street and they help them out with different tasks.

As well as the great graphics that immediately look appealing and eye catching, Phonic Street offers children a chance to practice and learn all sorts of skills in fun ways that make them want to play again and again.

A personal favourite was Mike and Millie helping out in the library and picking out the books that have spelling mistakes; it makes spelling interesting and fun. Other levels include learning how to rhyme through matching pictures and another allows children to complete sentences though conversations between characters. The 10 stages in most levels allow the children to practice each different skill a good number of times to get them thinking, but the things they have to sort vary from time to time, meaning they don’t have to play the same game twice.

The game finishes off with a final conversation with Millie and Mike’s mum where they talk about what they have done during the levels, allowing children to recall what they have done and reinforce the lessons and skills they’ve learnt. Phonic Street is a great game for children who want to practice their phonics in an interesting and enjoyable way – it makes learning fun!
