Developing a whole-school approach to teaching multiplication, division and fractions
I thought I’d draw everyone’s attention to a really interesting workshop taking place on the 30th January 2014. It’s being run by one of our guest bloggers Barbara Carr – a highly experienced Mathematics Consultant and an accredited Professional Development Lead for the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics.
About the workshop
Barbara has been focusing on how to make fractions more accessible for pupils. She has developed some new resources that will help all children see how factors and multiples are closely linked with fractions and make a seamless transition from Year 1 onwards.
Aims and objectives
– To share a dynamic approach to making mathematical connections.
– To provide step-by-step guidance on how to use resources that make quite difficult concepts appear easy.
– To consider how subject leaders will plan their CPD within school to accommodate raised expectations of new curriculum.
Proposed impact of training
A clearer understanding of how to achieve higher expectations in KS2 by setting firm foundations in KS1. A means to develop a whole–school approach using Barbara’s latest innovations!
