July’s Best Educational Apps

Following on from our review of the latest (and best!) educational apps in February, we thought it might be a good idea to have another look at the app store and see what new apps have been released recently.

 

 

 

 

 

Classic Winnie-the-Pooh (Free first story, £1.99 for each additional story)

This app features Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends from the Hundred Acre Wood, animated and brought to you in an app for the very first time by Egmont Publishers. This app features a variety of stories and interative activities from the Winnie-the-Pooh collection, as well as a ‘read-aloud’ option.

 

My Story World (Free to download, £3.99 for 6 months subscription)

 

Story Worl

 

 

A series of interactive stories, including some familiar names like Sid the Science Kid and Little Red Riding Hood. This app includes a variety of activities to try relating to each story and is simple enough for very young children to navigate easily.

 

 Squiggle Fish (£1.49)

 

SquigglyFish

 

A really fun, interactive drawing game to try with your children at home. Simply grab a piece of paper and some felt tips and ask the children to draw a variety of fish and ‘under the sea’ creatures, then photograph them with the app and voila…a fish tank full of fish! This app really brings drawings to life and makes the underwater creatures swim across the ipad like magic.

 

Petting Zoo (69p)

 

Petting Zoo

 

A very simple (but very popular) interactive picture book from Christoph Niemann, with 21 different animals that you can tap and swipe to do lots of surprising things! This combination of hand drawings and technology works brilliantly here, this app comes strongly recommended.

 

 Mibblio (Free)

 

Mibblio

 

A great collection of interactive stories/songs all about the ‘Miblets’, perfect for children to sing along to, read and generally enjoy. The first story is free and then each additional story is £1.49.

 

Great British Chefs Kids (Free)

 

Great British Chefs Kids

 

 

This app has been developed with Tesco Real Food and delivers 105 easy to follow recipes to try at home with your children, all accompanied by lots of colourful photographs and images.

 

 Endless Alphabet (Free)

Endless Alphabet is a very simple concept based around constructed different words, but it’s the drawings and animations that really bring with game to life. With it’s cute characters and colourful animations, this app is a firm favourite here at ELHQ.

 

Drawnimal (£1.49)

 

Drawnimal

 

This app combines both technology and good old fashioned paper, to create something fun and interactive that promises to entertain Simply choose an animal, place the ipad (or iphone) in the middle of a piece of paper and follow the drawing instructions.

 

Dr Panda’s Handyman (£1.49)

 

Dr Panda

 

This app is part of the Dr. Panda series and features activities based around the home, like making the bed, painting the walls and re-doing the floors.

 

 My First 101 Words (£1.49)

 

101 Words

 

This app uses videos and images  to illustrate the first 101 words that babies learn, it’s very simple but effective for re-enforcing those first key phrases.
